We Can Do Better!

I’m back from a trip to Canada, and I’m impressed with what I saw there. Lots of children out and about, people enjoying themselves, and a much more patient and friendly attitude than I typically see here in the United States. I think I heard one person use their car horn the entire time I was in Toronto. One thing I really noticed though was that they spend a lot more on infrastructure. Not just roads, but buildings, bridges, everything. There was a lot of construction going on in all the cities I visited.

Having the spent the week there, I’ve decided we can do better. Their attitude is more realistic, and their government doesn’t deny basic science like climate change. Speaking of which, many Canadians work for their government. With our capitalist mindset and “government is bad” attitude, that initially sounds bad, but it really isn’t when you consider that childcare costs $7 a day there, their health insurance is covered, and the majority of Canadians make a decent living. They still have rich people of course, but they’re not obscenely rich like here, and at least on the surface, they don’t appear to be bitter about paying their taxes like flag waving ‘publicans.

It was a breath of fresh air to visit a place where the values were more in line with my own. Nowhere is perfect, services and food in Canada seemed rather expensive, but Canada doesn’t have Don Trump running the country. That’s a major benefit in my opinion.

I look forward to visiting again sometime soon.
